‘Kupal’ feature film by Kazem Mollaie has crowned with the Best Fiction Feature Award at the 3rd edition of Arthouse Asia Film Festival in India.
The flick competed with eight other titles from Germany, Spain, Romania, Japan, the United States, Bangladesh and Taiwan succeeding to win the main prize of the festival.
‘Kupal’ is about Dr. Ahmad Kupal, a taxidermist hunter, who faces a challenge just before the New Year.
Nazanian Farahani, Pouria Rahimi-Sam and Hossein Shamsabadi make the cast team of the flick along with late Iranian-Armenian Levon Haftvan who died March 10, 2017 at the age of 51.
Mollaie’s feature debut attended several global film events before, bringing ‘Kupal’ best feature award from the ‘Around’ Film Festival in Amsterdam, the best foreign film award from the 26th Berkeley Video & Film Festival in the US and the 16th Ischia Film Festival in Italy as well as winning Best Cinematography Award from the 5th Fine Arts Film Festival in the US and the same award at the 3rd Realtime International Film Festival in Nigeria.
Most recently, it received Special Mention from the 7th Cebu International Film Festival in the Philippines.
Arthouse Asia is described by the official website as to “be an effort to unite worldwide independent filmmakers in a single platform.”
The event was launched on January 19-23, 2019 in the capital of India's West Bengal state, Kolkata.
